Donald V. Watkins: Any legislator who cannot support Megan's Law should be voted out of office in the 2018 elections.

Donald V. Watkins - you have raised an excellent question. I think the best option for eliminating the "forcible resistance" requirement is to work with a strong senator to sponsor an amendment to the existing rape statute that eliminates this requirement. I also think advocacy groups should contact Sen. Vivian Figures (D-Mobile) and ask her to sponsor this amendment. She is a strong and effective leader. They should also demand that The University of Alabama back this legislative initiative and direct its lobbyists to get it passed. This will guarantee its passage. When the student body returns for the 2017-18 school year, we should encourage the SGA and Crimson White news organization to join in this initiative. We should call the legislation "Megan's Law". Any legislator who cannot support Megan's Law should be voted out of office in the 2018 elections.

Just when you thought the Megan Rondini rape case and "date rape" drug trafficking scandal could not get any worse for The University of Alabama, a new development has emerged involving the University's Police Department. According to confidential sources familiar with the situation, a high-ranking UAPD officer regularly purchases illegal "pills" and a specific controlled substance for himself, his wife, and several former Tuscaloosa police officers. The UAPD officer involved is a supervisory level employee on the force.
I know the officer's name and the specific controlled substance purchased. I am withholding this information to protect the identity of my confidential sources. The information was provided to my team of investigators after the publication of Sunday's article on the "date rape" drug trade in Tuscaloosa. The information is credible and has been independently confirmed.
We have also confirmed that these drug purchases were not made as part of any undercover "sting" operation. They were made for the recreational use of the parties indicated in this article.
Our investigation into this matter is ongoing to determine whether other UAPD officers are involved in the systematic procurement of party drugs from drug dealers.
According to the University, the mission of the UAPD is to "provide a safe and secure environment for all members" of the University community. The Department is responsible for providing full law enforcement services and sharing information to students in order to reduce their chances of becoming a victim of a crime like Megan Rondini. University Police provide an array of services, including police patrol, investigations, community services, and police communications.
To advance its public safety goal, the University might want to start policing the personal conduct of its officers. Furthermore, the UAPD might want to use its talented Investigations Division to alert female students and staffers to the names and frequent hangout spots of known drug dealers and sexual predators in the Tuscaloosa area.
Meanwhile, we are preparing upcoming articles that focus on: (a) the big "bosses" behind Tuscaloosa's "date rape" drug ring, (b) why this drug ring is thriving under Sheriff Ron Abernathy and District Attorney Hays Webb, and (c) whether any of this drug money has found its way to the Crimson Tide Foundation.
Stay tuned.

Megan Rondini's rape case and subsequent death brought us face to face with Tuscaloosa's "date rape" drug ring - Donald V Watkins

Donald V. Watkins A lot of my personal friends are police officers, both active and retired. They could take down this GHB drug ring if the people at the top of the law enforcement community were not holding them back. Megan Rondini's rape case and subsequent death brought us face to face with Tuscaloosa's "date rape" drug ring. We have law enforcement allies fighting on our side, but they are not at the top of the organizational chart. We are NOT going to let down these dedicated and honest police officers.

Donald V Watkins: To The Citizens of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, Thank you!

To The Citizens of Tuscaloosa County, Alabama,
Thank you!
The overwhelmingly positive response to Sunday's article titled, "Was Megan Rondini's Accused Rapist Tied To The Underworld Of 'Date Rape' Drugs And Sexual Abuse In Tuscaloosa?", was heartwarming and motivating. You are so much better than the individuals in local law enforcement and government who purport to represent your interest in public safety.

After my article was published, we received a lot of credible information and scores of tips on the thriving GHB drug ring operating in Tuscaloosa. We are vetting all of this information now.
Working together, we can effectively combat the GHB drug trafficking problem and sexual abuse of women that goes along with it. We are already making a positive difference. Drug dealers cannot operate under the bright glare of real-time public exposure. We are going to shine a very bright light on them and their dealings through our investigative journalism.
No news organization in Alabama can conduct this type of investigation. They simply do not have the law enforcement resources, networking background, legal knowledge, and confidential sources to develop these complex and tough stories.
We will make every effort to avoid identifying the individuals who are cooperating with federal law enforcement agencies as we dismantle this GHB drug trade ring. Everybody else in the drug trade is fair game.
It would be great if The University of Alabama and the Tuscaloosa Sheriff's Department would join us in cleaning up the GHB drug trade in Tuscaloosa. Unfortunately, we cannot expect much help from these two institutions of government. For reasons that leave me shaking my head, they are too compromised by financial conflicts of interest and other troubling factors to support our cause.
The GHB drug ring is much bigger than what I described in Sunday's article. We are preparing future articles that will focus on: (a) the big "bosses" behind Tuscaloosa's "date rape" drug ring, (b) why this drug ring is thriving under Sheriff Ron Abernathy and District Attorney Hays Webb, and (c) whether any of this drug money has found its way to the Crimson Tide Foundation.
