On August 7, 2017, I published an article titled, "Adam Bailey's Murder Sheds Light Light on the Role of GHB in Megan Rondini's Rape Case."
The article told the story of Adam Bryant Bailey, a 24-year-old forest technician for Forestry Research Contractors in Gordo, Alabama. Adam was murdered on August 7, 2016, after he witnessed sex trafficking in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Adam went ballistic when he saw a blindfolded and physically restrained underage girl being taken from a vehicle and carried into one of the warehouses to which his old friend Brett Davis and Davis' sex trafficking accomplices had access. Adam tried unsuccessfully to intervene on this girl's behalf and it cost him his life.
Sex trafficking is the world's fastest growing illegal activity. It is an estimated $13 billion per year business in the United States alone, and 75% of the victims are being trafficked as sex slaves. Alabama is home to a sex-trafficking super-highway. The stretch of I-20 between Atlanta and Tuscaloosa is "America's number one road for human sex trafficking." The money flow derived from sex and drug trafficking in Tuscaloosa alone is estimated at $1 billion a year.
Medical Records and Post Mortem Photos Yield Key Evidence
A independent review of Adam Bailey's medical records last month revealed that he had been dead for about one hour before EMT were called to the scene of his Northport home by his so-called "friends". Based on blood chemistry, it is estimated that Adam stopped ventilation/breathing approximately one hour before cardiac electrical activity was re-started with IV medication administered by the EMTs who responded to the 911 call. When the EMTs arrived at Adam's home, he was found in an asystole state (i.e., he had zero cardiac electrical activity).
Using a certain arterial blood gas, qualified physicians can extrapolate an estimated time that Adam's ventilation/breathing had stopped. This estimation deals with blood chemistry and gas exchange and how long it takes to accumulate carbon dioxide in the blood. Specifically, once a person quits breathing the heart will continue to do some work but without ventilating the carbon dioxide will accumulate in the blood stream. Based on physiology and a review of Adam's blood gases, it is estimated that Adam had stopped breathing about one hour prior to the EMT intervention.
Witness statements and other independent evidence in the case indicates that Adam was the victim of a GHB overdose and choking.
Brett Patrick Davis and His Circle of Shady Friends
Adam Bailey was a friend of Brett Patrick Davis. After high school, Davis entered the world of drug and sex trafficking in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I profiled Davis and his Tuscaloosa-based network of young drug dealers in my July 23, 2017, article titled, "Was Megan Rondini's Accused Rapist Tied To The Underworld Of "Date Rape" Drugs And Sexual Abuse In Tuscaloosa?"
Despite Davis' participation in Tuscaloosa's thriving world of drug trafficking, which includes the distribution and sale of the popular "date rape" drug known as "GHB" on the bar and club scene in Tuscaloosa, Adam Bailey maintained a close and personal friendship with Davis. Adam, who was not a drug dealer, tried to help Brett Davis find his way back to a positive and productive lifestyle.
In August 2016, Adam discovered something far more sinister than Brett Davis' participation in the trafficking of GHB, Xanax and ICE pills, cocaine, and other illegal drugs in Tuscaloosa. Adam stumbled upon a clandestine sex trafficking ring that Davis and his accomplices were operating in Tuscaloosa.
The evidence indicates that Adam was unobtrusively administered a fatal overdose of GHB on August 7, 2017, while he was in the presence of Caleb Payne Legrone. Caleb is a close friend and drug trafficking partner of Brett Davis. Shortly thereafter, Adam went out to dinner with Victoria Love and Joseph Alan Cook. According to Love, Adam started acting "weird" and eventually passed out. She drove him to his home in Northport.
Police records show that Victoria Love then contacted Caleb Legrone to tell him about Adam's condition. Legrone sent a text message to her stating that he (Legrone) and his accomplices had made up a false story to cover up for what really happened to Adam earlier that night. After speaking with Legrone, Victoria Love left Adam in his truck and went home.
Caleb Legrone and Mathew Hartley, Adam's roommate, arrived at the house before the police were called. Legrone told police he tried to revive Adam once they got him inside the house. The medical records establish that Adam was dead for one hour before EMTs arrived at the scene.
After police officers were called to the scene, Adam was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa where he was placed on a respirator for six days. On August 14, 2016, Adam was taken off the respirator and declared dead.
Legrone and Hartley were contacted for a follow up interview about the highly questionable text message Legrone sent to Victoria Love. Legrone never responded. Hartley did respond, but he wanted an attorney present. The police file does not show any follow-up interviews with Legrone or Hartley.
On August 16, 2016, an autopsy by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences listed Adam Bailey's cause of death as a "Seizure Disorder" and the manner of death as "Undetermined". A toxicology report confirmed the presence of various substances in Adam's body, but none that would have caused his death. Some of these substances were administered to Adam as part of his emergency room and ICU medical treatment. Another substance came from a drug used to treat Adam's OCD condition.
Interestingly, the autopsy procedures did not test the vitreous humor area of Adams' eyes, his tear ducts, or his hair for the presence of GHB. An overdose of GHB would have killed Adam.
Additionally, photos taken of Adam's body at the funeral home clearly show choke marks on both sides of Adam's neck. Yet, these marks are not mentioned in Adam's autopsy report. In fact, the report states that Adam's neck was "unremarkable".
The Tuscaloosa Metro Homicide Unit investigated Adam's death and closed the case on March 10, 2017, without determining what substance cause Adam's fatal overdose or how the choke marks on his neck occurred.
No arrests have been made in connection with Adam Bailey's murder.
The Tie Between Adam's Murder Case and Megan Rondini's Rape Case
The shady cast of characters involved in Tuscaloosa's GHB drug trafficking ring is tied to University of Alabama honors student Megan Rondini's July 2, 2015, rape case and Adam Bailey's murder case. Many of these individuals appear to enjoy special protection within Tuscaloosa's law enforcement community. They are typically in and out of jail on a carousel basis.
Caleb Legrone, a cohort of Brett Davis, is reportedly one of the biggest GHB distributors in the Tuscaloosa area. In an effort to mislead police, Legrone told them Adam might have overdosed on Xanax or any other prescription medications. A police search of Adams' residence and truck when they arrived at the scene found no Xanax pills. Magically, drugs and dirty drug needles appeared at the unsecured crime scene when police revisited it six days later.
Joseph Alan Cook, who was referenced in my July 23rd article, was with Victoria Love and Adam when she started out to dinner. He was dropped off at another location. Cook is a friend of Legrone. Cook was also one of 50 heroin dealers arrested by federal law enforcement agents in September of 2013 in connection with two Tuscaloosa overdose deaths. Cook was back on the street in record time.
Stefan Swindoll, a Legrone associated who was discussed in my July 23rd article, threatened Adams' father after he raised questions about Adam's suspicious death. Swindoll is currently on probation in Pickens County, Alabama until January 2018 in connection with his guilty plea to harassing communications directed to the Bailey family.
The drug trafficking ring operated by Caleb Legrone, Stefan Swindoll, Brett Patrick Davis, Joseph Alan Cook, and their accomplices led us straight to the man Megan Rondini named as her rapist -- Terry Bunn "Sweet T" Bunn, Jr. In 2015, Sweet T was getting his supply of GHB from Caleb Legrone and Brett Davis, as well as local bar and club staffers in Tuscaloosa.
Stay tuned for more developments.
