The following is an email from Sandy Schmitz sent out this morning re Mayor Mike and Michael's
amazing accomplishment - Hiking to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro (19,341 ft) - The highest free-standing mountain in the world. It took them 9 days to make it to the summit (15 below zero) and it will take less than 48 hrs to hike to the bottom.

Subject: Mike and Michael Schmitz reached the summit of Kili this morning

At around 6:15 a.m. Central Time today, Mike and Michael made it to the summit of Kilimanjaro - THE ROOF OF AFRICA at 19,340 feet!!! Mike called on the Sat Phone to say they were tired and that breathing was difficult, but they were standing on the peak!
It was about eight hours of climbing today - all tough. At the moment they are on their way down (2 more hours) from the summit to about 18,000 feet to spend the night (evening there right now) in the volcano crater camp. Tomorrow morning they will head down the mountain and will arrive back in the States soon. Hooray!!
